The Ujamaa Community Resource Team (UCRT) is a leading organization in northern Tanzania working to facilitate community-based natural resource management.
Working in some of East Africa’s most biologically and culturally rich landscapes, UCRT works in roughly 60 pastoralist and hunter-gatherer communities, focusing on strengthening land and natural resource rights through a range of tenure security legal instruments and community processes.
To expand their model and scale up community led sustainable resource management and land rights initiatives for pastoralists and hunter-gatherer communities, UCRT is working to strengthen its organizational systems and strategic focus. Securing core financial support has been a prominent need for UCRT, and Maliasili Initiatives has helped leverage substantial funds for UCRT to increase their core operational budget.
But core support alone will not lead to long-term change, and therefore, Maliasili is also helping UCRT revise its strategic plan, including identifying and securing sustainable funding sources, building networks and new collaborations, strengthening communications, building a new monitoring and evaluation system and improving management and planning.
